This song can wring tears and smiles out of me each time I listen to it, even one month after the release of Furious 7. The music, lyrics, and emotions of Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa in performing the song combine to reduce my being to a puddle of feels on the floor. When that chorus of “Aaaahs,” swell at the end that “see you again,” line, I literally feel my stomach churn, and I’m overwhelmed with (weirdly enough), love. I guess it’s a sort of empathy for the singers, or context of the song. And then my whole body reacts (a twinge or tingle here, a firm squeeze to the heart), and memories I have of the cast, both on and off screen, play in my head, and I splinter everywhere– down to my toes. Beautiful song.
“It’s been a long day without you, my friend
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
We’ve come a long way from where we began
Oh, I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
How could we not talk about family when family’s all that we got?
Everything I went through you were standing there by my side
And now you gon’ be with me for the last ride.
First you both go out your way
And the vibe is feeling strong
And what’s small turn to a friendship
A friendship turn to a bond
And that bond will never be broken
And the love will never get lost
And when brotherhood come first
Then the line will never be crossed
So let the light guide your way, yeah
Hold every memory as you go
And every road you take will always lead you home, home
